Perfection

mother and baby deer from Nara, Japan. you can get them here

While still struggling with the porcupine pattern, I want to share with you these mother and baby deer I got from Japan (I actually got them at hibino, Tel Aviv). I was speechless when I first laid my eyes on them, so simple and perfect. I inquired and found out they had been handwoven by a family in the ancient city of Nara, which is famous for the deer that roam its park. I wish I could give a more specific credit, but this is all I could find out. If I'd known the name and address of this family I think I would fly all the way to the ancient city of Nara, knock on their door and bow deeply. j

Handmade Romance

Super-talented Evie from "Handmade Romance", who's blog had been one of the inspirations to start my own blog, has shared some of my work on her beautiful ever-interesting and refreshing blog. Thank you Evie! This is a good chance to share some of my favorite creations of hers. I can never tell what these lovable characters are more - funny or sad. I guess this is why I love them so much. Check out her blog, facebook page, or Etsy shop to see more. j

Black Porcupine

After my first two were lucky enough to find a new home, I knitted another porcupine, still not perfect, but getting there. The pattern is coming up, and I promise to post about other things besides more imperfect porcupines. j

Fish Mobile for Yuval

I took a break from the porcupine pattern to work on this mobile for a friend's baby. It's little more colorful and cheerful than my usual work. It was fun to do and I wish Yuval a colorful and cheerful new life, but I will be happy to get back to my more gloomy knitting soon.m

World Atlas

These are taken from the atlas I used as background for my felted animal photos. I found it so beautiful and inspiring that I think it deserves to be admired on its own, without any polar bears or kangaroos hanging out on its elegant pages.

Porcupine

I am finally proud to present the first knitted animal I have made without using a pattern. It was vaguely planned in my mind as I started it but I mostly made it up along the way. Making it was very enjoyable and liberating after working with patterns for so long. I still have a lot to learn, but it was very encouraging to look at my finished, tail-less, crooked, unsymmetrical porcupine and to realize I can already make up my own patterns, clumsy as they might be.j
